Ampeg Jet J12R Tube Amp
Ampeg brought out the “Blue Diamond” reissue series in the mid – 90’s, which included the J12R and J12T, great looking and sounding tube amps styled after their original early 60’s designs. Solid, reliable, and versatile, this is a great little amp for guitar or harp, I employ two of them for my own personal guitar rig. This one sports an added bonus in a very rare Deluxe padded handle (factory, not an add – on), which really gives the amp a more substantial appearance vrs. the stock leather strap handle. I have seen the Super Jet (50 watt) with this handle but this is the only standard Jet I’ve ever come across that had it. The cabinet vinyl is VGC, with only a couple of very minor scuffs. Grill cloth is clean and undamaged. The chrome control plate is very nice, no damage to any of the lettering or logo, with only a miniscule amount of extremely light scratching around the input jacks as would be expected. All chrome corners are beautiful and show no damage. Overall this amp would easily earn a condition rating of at least 9 – 9 1/2…..nearly what you would expect to find new – in – store. Deep rich tone from the 12′ driver, really breaks up nicely as you push it harder. I myself prefer the 12R over the 12T…. especially for harp, because of the greater tone flexibility provided by the separate Bass and Treble controls….12T has only a single Tone control. Nice spring reverb, plenty of power for small combo or rehearsal. Responds nicely to Shure Controlled Magnetic harp mics, and the separate Bass and Treb controls help give most crystal mics a good bottom end while helping keep feedback in check. 100% functional with no issues, an all around great looking and sounding amp from one of the premier names in American amplification.
Vintage Gibson Skylark GA5 Tube Amp
I absolutely love these little mid – 60’s Skylark amps….the cross – weave vinyl is so cool and the double beveled cabinet design compliments the clean simplicity of this versatile amplifier. Two EL84 power tubes, about 5 watts….great for harp and studio guitar. Simple as it gets….Volume, Bass, Treble. The vinyl on this amp is in fantastic condition…handle shows one crack on it’s top layer but is solid. Huge upgrade in the form of an Eminence Legend 10″ driver, which can take every bit of juice this little pup can muster. This really comes into play if you use any kind of pedal or processor that allows you to push the input level. The 10″ Legend driver currently sells new for about $90.00. The original power cord has been replaced with a heavy duty three prong of very generous length. Lightweight and versatile, this amp is a great addition to any collection.
