Used Electro Voice N/D 357AS Dynamic Microphone
When it comes to these fine quality EV microphones, the phrase “don’t make ’em like they used to” really applies, IMHO. Part of the original “57” series ( 257, 357, 457….) Neodymium element mics, they offer noticeably superior sound quality when compared to many similarly priced Shure models such as the SM 57 and SM 58. Output and response is much more like the higher priced Shure Beta models, and I always grab them up when found in good shape. I’ve always been a fan of EV, but after they were purchased by Telex things were never quite the same. The replacement line to these mics ( “67” series ) are also great sounding mics, but I totally prefer the old series to the newer ones….they simply sound better to me. This is a wonderful vocal mic, with output, depth, and clarity comparable to a Shure Beta 58, and a nice tight Supercardioid pattern. Also has an On-Off switch. They all feature what EV called their “warm grip” handle, essentially a vinyl sleeve which slips over the metal shaft of the mic, helps to lessen handling noise. No dings or dents to the grill. Whenever possible, I steam clean the grill on the microphones I sell, and also apply a product called Sterisol. Hands down a better sounding mic than a standard Shure SM 58, at about the same used price point. Comes with stand clip.

Great frequency response, small size, and swivel-head yoke design combine to make these great mics a “first choice” on drums, horns, guitar cabs, acoustic guitar….so many uses, sonically superb. With a nice, tight super cardioid pattern, this is almost always my first choice on snare drum, particularly in a very tight kit. Great investment for the home studio. Very unobtrusive for clean stage look on drum kits. A real knockout!
